Things Change

It’s a phase. All of it. Not just with your kids or your job. But also with whatever the cultural or political moment is. Even the climate of hate, fear, violence and divisiveness we are currently mired in.  Pain itself is a phase–one that will either end…or end us all.

When we are  stressed, depressed, anxious, angry, or  losing hope, we  must remind yourself of this too.

All of it is a phase. It’s a phase in your relationship. It’s a phase in the economy. It’s a phase in our politics.

Things boom and bust…but never forever. Things feel boring, things feel incredibly exciting…but never forever. They go up, they go down. They come and they go. They change. And in their changing, they test us and they change us too.

Thoughts and prayers will not change us. Neither will fearful compliance with injustice. Our actions, our response when we are most fearful… these will determine our fate. But If we can look at things  with a little perspective, we can bear them better. We don’t know when they’ll end, only for certain that they will.

If we can remember this always, we will have passed a difficult test, and we can build our better tomorrows.
